Is it possible to take apart a Lionel 364 C Control Switch to paint the switch? I am building my first layout and I just like the look of the switch better with a red switch. I certainly don't want to ruin these... Any idea how to teardown?

A red slide? Not the housing?
Undo the two screws holding the baseplate in, and the whole works pops apart. Reassembly in reverse. Null sheen. Just make sure not to paint any metal contacts.
Hope this helps!

Hmm...never even thought about it and I've got a bunch of these on my control panel.
There was a red variation. Who knew?
I got the idea from the tandem associates website

This is my first layout… I would love to see your control panel with the switches. Please send a photo if you don’t mind.

Looks great! I Love the 1950's accessories! I have a Lionel KW transformer and just acquired a Z just like yours! Can't wait to start running the wires! Thanks for sharing.
There are two blind rivets on the back side. One of them is next to the 364C. You'll will need a flat sided set of dykes to get under the head and gently pull straight up on the rivet or they'll have a twist to them. Which in that case you would turn counter-clockwise while pulling.
Reassembly is to lightly tap the rivet back into place until its fully seated.
Good luck.

Good luck. Please post some pictures of your layout down the road.
BIG THANK YOU to JAYHAWK500 !!
I used a miniature vise-grips and the rivets came out with a little twist! Thanks for the tip!

Only the earliest versions had screws. Most of the internal parts are different between the screw on cover type and the later drive screw type. My luck with remove the drive screws has been poor. I always watch for the type with screw on covers as the contacts do need to be cleaned about every 50 years or so. Best of luck to you.
