In an earlier post I asked about fuse protection for a TIU I'd erroneously thought was a first generation TIU but under closer examination I discovered my TIU has a tiny label with Rev. I on it so my question now is: Does a Rev.I TIU purchased in 2005 need fuse protection? If it does what type fuse should be used - a fast blow glass tube type ceramic fuse or fast blow blade type automotive fuse? Also, what amp and voltage fuse and for which TIU input(s) or output(s) should the fuse(s) be added? Will be using a Z-4000 to power TIU and TMCC cab 1 base.

Also, any additional advice, warnings, precautions, or provisions I should take with this older Rev. I TIU and its remote compared to the more recent Rev.L TIU's and remotes? Both NIB old stock originally purchased in 2005, but never used or removed from box so are there special steps I should follow for either the TIU or remote before their first use and power up? (I do plan to have the TIU and remote updated to the newest 5.0 software.)

Btw, for updating the TIU's software, the TIU has an RS-232 port while my Windows 10computer has usb 2.0 and 3.0 but no RS-232 ports so what cable is needed to connect them for the update?

Thanks for your advice and help.

IMO, every TIU channel that's connected to a transformer output that lacks a modern, quick-acting circuit breaker requires either a fast-blow fuse or quick-acting circuit breaker.

There are no exceptions.

I'd like to know what size resettable(din mount ) breaker to use.  One you tube video says 3 amp provides quickest protection, but is that enough amperage for a medium size layout that might have two ps2 engines running at same time.

or do you recommend the more modern Psx.?

Thank you,

kevin
