Carl, you have seen me ask people how they made out and never get an answer. I guess it is what it is. Your point is a good one and I agree.
Here is one more. STEP #!2. Actually do the steps that are recommended and report back. Some post as you follow, folks don't actually do the steps but report back, "still not working". G
Marty, nice list.
It is amazing the amount of experience and knowledge here on the OGR Forum to assist folks with issues. I'm sure many times some of us just plain forget to type that one critical bit of information.
HI MARTY,
This is a common sense list and people need to see this before asking questions. I thank GUNRUNNERJOHN, GGG, and YOU, for all the advise to remedy the few problems I have had with my engines. Keep up the good work YUZ GUZ. Great advise and it is free too.
Marty,
I really hope that the Moderator(s) allow you to maintain a permanent sticky. I agree with others to leave your list as written. I have noticed that those most offended by your list are those who want ..........(You can fill in the blank). Most folk do not realize just how costly your level of training can be. And yet you prefer to help without charge.
Lastly, I first learned about you almost 30 years ago. Over the years you have not changed. Your desire to help others has only grown.
Thank you guys. I have had members contact me with an offer to pay for repairs and upgrades. I do not want to take any money from someone who uses train repairs to pay the bills. Over the years I have been lucky enough to become friends with many members across the country. I know many good repair people who I try to send members to. When Lionel upgraded the Service Station program, only two exist in Massachusetts. Many Dealers claim to be a Lionel service station and are not. This can be checked on the Lionel site and the MTH site for MTH information.
Pappy, Lima, and Laz1957, sometimes it is hard to stay with posters who will not answer some questions that are thrown at them. Most of the questions are what I first listed. People take offense when we tell them to discard white batteries and replace them. People get offended when we tell them to replace a traction tire with a new tire. Most of us stay clear from some of those posts that will try to take you on.
Great sources to listen to are GGG, my go to guy to fix boards, He knows everything about repairs. Gunrunner who is in my book the man for ERR and just about everything else, Paul Strickland (VAGolfer) down in Virginia. Paul can fix anything and is a good guy for upgrades. On the west coast, Jimmy Osborne. Jimmy does a great job on everything. In the Niagara Falls area, Jimmy Strom. Jimmy keeps all the trains in western New York and Canada running both Lionel and MTH. The guys in the PA/Ohio area are lucky with Mercer Junction. Both Dave and Brian know everything. That is just a short list and the OGR Forum has many more. I apologize if I left any off.
