Is that a Lionel or MTH smoke unit. If MTH and PS 1, what resistor(s) do you use. I assume you are using a cruise commander in that engine.

By any chance is that a PRR M1a? Looks like it is coming along fine. Can't wait to double head it with my Y3 and pull my military train. Been on vacation in the Outer Banks. Have not been keeping up with the forum until today. I did get your text about the Mogul sounds like that one is coming along too.

Impressive!!   So...is the improved smoke unit included with the chuff board assembly or is that a separate item?  Can this be installed in my Lionel TMCC K-4 semi-scale Pacific?

The smoke unit is not part of the board package.  You can install it in virtually any locomotive that has a fan driven smoke unit and a chuff switch.  I've even worked out a way to use it in conventional locomotives, turned out to be surprisingly easy after my first failed attempt!

That engine is going to be awfully thirsty.

Great work, will that work in an MTH Proto-1 engine? If so will it require a Proto-2/3 upgrade?

This doesn't really work with a PS/1 locomotive as they generate the chuff internally and have no switch.  If you convert to PS/2, there is no need for this board, PS/2 offers the smoke functionality.

This board is targeted at Lionel TMCC and TMCC upgrades, and can also be used on conventional locomotives.  The primary requirements are a fan driven smoke unit and a chuff switch, either mechanical or electronic.

Great job and video Alex.  Thanks.  Now I know this will sound like I'm prejudiced,  but I saw the engine Harry Henning III converted and with the smoke stack on it's even more impressive with smoke rings being blown at slow speeds.

Gunrunner the board will work for PS-1 Locomotives it just will not make the sound.  To use this in a PS-1 you can make the Smoke unit Puff rather than have the smoke blow out in a constant stream.  At least this is my understanding.  I am guessing that this would be tantamount to being installed in a Conventional locomotive only using the board to control the Smoke unit and also the addition of a Reed Swtch to make it puff If I am mistaken in my thoughts please correct me as I am looking at retrofitting a Scale 0-8-0 PS-1 Engineering sample to do this

just ordered one for a challenger I know not a big deal a challenger it just happens to be the first big steam engine I ever bought. I waited about 6 months to buy one. now just to get all of it's issues worked out smoke being one of them.
