Hi folks, I haven't been here for quite sometime.  I just got out of chemotherapy and to celebrate, my wife got me this engine off Ebay.  The seller didn't have the instruction manual so I went to Lionel's web site looking to find it.  For whatever reason, Lionel's "love to help you" page says that this engine's instructions isn't available.  As if they do not even know it exists.  I can't fathom that.  It's their product, why don't they have it?

Well, in any case, I can't assign it a new number on TMCC.  I can't restore factory settings.  I can't reprogram it.  I have tried to run it "conventional" (the old fashioned way by turning off  the TMCC receiver) and the engine will run only if I crank the "ZW" up to max.  Only then it receives enough electric to run modestly, but runs a ways and then stops.

The switches on the engine's underside are labeled, "RUN & PROG", which I understand, but the other side the switch is labeled, "FULL & SIG", which I don't understand.

Can anyone tell me where I can get the instructions and/or what is going on with this beautiful engine?  What number must I use to restore factory settings and/or reprogram it?  I have been using "8"  but that doesn't get it.

Thanks all for any assistance.

If it is a full scale GG-1.....you might try stock numbers...6-18355 6-18356.... These units appear to be manufactured in 3/2005. It is my experience, Lionel uses a generic manual for similar engines with different road names.

Look under Service Manuals in the Lionel website...

As you type the numbers 6-183    you'll see a listing underneath

I just finished rebuilding the motors on that G and have it for another few days before it goes to the customer.   For an AC motor, it does run excellent.  I just went to the box and no book.  That is a Postwar Celebration Series Locomotive.  The part number for the unavailable book is 6718326250.

I think if you open the locomotive, you are going to see an R2LC board that may need to be reseated or the antenna wire unplugged from the board.  This engine is different from many as the antenna wire goes from the board to the tabs under the pantographs.   It uses the pans as the antenna.  If you need a picture of anything, let me know.

I have been inside my share of those and they run great with the brushes cleaned, commutator resurfaced, all axles and bearings lubricated properly.   You may do yourself some good if you go through the locomotive.  The electronics have always been very good.

If you open your engine, take your continuity meter and hit pin 23 on the R2LC and the antenna.  Hopefully you will get continuity.  You can also hit the pan mount and ground on the locomotive and if you get continuity there you found your problem.

ps.---You can always get good trains (hopefully) but you can not always get a good wife.  I love to hear great stories.  You are a lucky man.
