Hi:

After reading considerable "How To's" on both this forum and from the SCARM website, I have developed an O-Scale layout which I am pleased with.

However, I have decided that it would be really great if I could expand my layout board size by a few inches on 3 sides.  The layout is horseshoe shaped with considerable complications on the inside.  The outside is square.

Can anyone advise if I can go back to my board and increase the outside dimensions without starting over?

Thanks...    Tom

Hi Tom,

Sure you can. First save your current plan.

Next, if you select the blue line representing the baseboard, it will turn red. You will then see all of the points of the polygon as open red squares.

If you select a point, it will turn solid red. You can click & drag it any direction that you like.

If you right click the red line at a specific point, you can select insert new point. This helps in shaping angles or rounding out curved benchwork.

When you are done with your changes, select File, Save As and give it different name.

If you mess it up, just hit the red x to close SCARM and select, Don't save changes. Then you can open it again.

When you open the new file, you may now have points into the negative X area or negative Y area. It's ok. You just need to remember that when using the ruler. If you select View, Show Size and Area, the actual length of the sides will be displayed.

If you get frustrated, send me the file and I'll adjust the baseboard for you.

Got it.

Thanks again Carl.

My layout is done.  I love the 3D view and the track elevation ability.  Adding tunnels shows what it would look like.  The 3D feature is something you can't get with a pencil sketch.

I need to fine tune the switches as 10 x 17 is not a lot of room to work with.  Always wishing for more room.  I am using the Atlas program and now I am trying the Lenz-O program that has curved turnouts.  I will build all my own switches because I am cheap.

Thanks again....   Tom
