Looking for help. I have purchased the new Lionel Base 3, however have not installed it yet. I currently have Lionel Base 2 with remote control with powerbricks supplying power to two tracks via two TPC 400s.I use the handheld to turn all power and base 2  on to the layout.

I understand reading material that the Base 3 takes quite a while to boot up so question: Should I plug base into separate power source and start up first before applying track power?

Additionally I am not sure how I can keep the TPC 400s in the mix or if I even need to as I am not sure I can control the TPCs via the handheld with the BASE 3 replacing the base 2?

Any help appreciated. Al ( email in profile)

Easy, you just need a PDI cable and a SER2 module- that's how you get the wired serial data connection out of the BASE3

Then your remotes will be able to send the commands to the TPCs.

I posted this answer earlier

Also, on more recent setups (like base3 or even the previous Legacy base 990) an LCS SER2 module can be used as a serial data breakout point.

Yes, I have Base 3 ( yet to be installed) . Guess I am just confused on how to connect the current set up ( base 3 connected to TPC via green / red data wire) and using ser2. I get pda cable connection from base 3 to ser2, but how does one connect TPC to ser2. I know I am missing something.Probably me!

Again, the manual for the serial 2 module.

A KEY point to understand- the SER2 module is NOT just a 9 pin serial port, it also has a serial data connection set of screw terminals and duplicates the serial information out each way or path kind of like a hub or repeater.

manual link below for the SER2
