The Rockford O Scalers are having a open house on March 18 connected with the Chicago O Scale March Meet. If you are heading west on Sunday (or have Sunday afternoon free), please stop by if you can. We are on the south side of Rockford and are about a hour and fifteen minutes west of the meet. I'm not sure what the official hours are, but anytime between 12:00 and 6:00 the trains will be running. The March/April issue of O Scale Resource has several pictures of the layout that you can look at to see if it is a layout you would be interested in seeing.

Definitely a worth while trip to make! A great basement layout, and to top that off,...a great bunch of guys!
I agree that this is a layout that you shouldn't miss. They have done a great job on scenery and I always learn something when I visit them. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming when you visit. These guys are a real credit to the hobby.

I agree with Art above, make the time to visit. While I applaud all owners who graciously open their homes for the meet members, I do think there are a few layouts that are “must sees” and the Rockford O Scalers fit into that group.
Art, I’m busy in the morning, but if you leave later I may see you guys there.

Thanks John! Truly looking forward to visiting again.
So where does one get the address to this open house?
Matt,
I think, for security reasons (and to promote attendance), the addresses are only given out once you are inside the door.

Correct. Even if you are pre-registered & pre-paid, you do NOT receive the list & directions to the various "open houses" on the layout tours, until you actually arrive at the "registration desk". At that point you will be handed the "packet of stuff" AND your badge for entrance into the room.
John,
Thanks so much for the invitation to your Open House. However, Sunday is a bad day for those wishing to visit your layout if they are heading East after the Meet. Many of us Easterners have a long, long car ride (800-900 miles) home with a sleepover Sunday evening somewhere in Ohio, before finishing our journey late Monday.
Any chance of offering to open the layout Saturday evening?
Steve
Hi Steve,
Late Saturday might be possible or Friday if you are coming in early. I was thinking about visiting the Fox Valley layout Saturday night but I can skip that if it would work out better for you and it would get me home earlier. Or we could do both (the Fox Valley layout is not to far out of the way when going from Lombard to Rockford). The Rockford O Scalers will have three tables at the meet (last year we were by the Caboose Stop Hobbies tables-not sure if it will be the same this year) . It might be the easiest if we connect at the meet and then make the plans. Just ask for John if that plan sounds okay.

So its not really an open house now is it. Its a layout tour for attendees of the Chicago March Meet.

Sounds like it, just as with any of the so-called "private" home layouts that are "open" to visiting paid/registered attendees.

I have read all the posts and sounds to me like it is both. It is a tour for the Chicago O Scale Meet and it is also an open house for anyone in the area that wants to come. Matt, why don't you send them a private email and get their address?
Art
Thanks John..I'll be looking for you at the Meet. Maybe others will want to visit the layout too if the word is out that your layout will be open Saturday evening.
Steve
Steve,
Does 6:45 to 8:45 Saturday night work for you? Before I invite anyone else, I want to make sure the time works for you.
John
John,
Yes it does. And then with this added day and time slot I do hope that others will take advantage and visit your layout. I'm sure that if they take the time to look add the videos and photos that you have posted on Facebook they will come.
I'm fascinated by all of the Mid Western equipment and their color schemes. I never see much of that back East.
Steve
Art, I plan on attending the op[en house on Sunday on my way home. I hope to see some of the other layouts in the area as well but I've been told for years this is one to see!!!!
