i do not believe the WiFi explorer will control those. Could I have them both connected to the track or would I have to power off one or the other?

The Explorer delivers a constant fixed voltage to the track so you would need to disconnect it from the track when you connected your Z1000 to run conventionally.
I believe you could feed the output of the Z1000 to a plug that fits in place of the wall adapter for the DCS Explorer. You could then vary the voltage to the track through the DCS Explorer. I do this with the TIU, but it is slightly different situation, because the TIU has a pass through power input. I assume the wall adapter for the DCS Explorer is 18V AC. I would check this first. It will be on the label of the wall adapter. Post a picture if you can't tell.

I do not see a way to vary the power from my wifi explorer it's ok I use the same power pack for both not a big deal to unplug the power amd plug it into the throttle power
You would vary the power on your Z1000.
House Wall Outlet ----> Z1000 -----> DCS Explorer AC input : DCS Explorer Output ----> Track
You just need an AC adapter plug from the output of the Z1000.

You would need to make one. Easiest way is to find an old dead wall adapter that fits and cut the plug off. They sell some plug adapters on eBay, but I don't know the plug specification.

There is a post from a few years ago about fuse blowing problems with the then new Explorer. I reported a consistent problem if a Z1000 was placed between the transformer and the Explorer. When a derailment occurred, the fuse would blow. The advice given by MTH was the Explorer should be connected directly to the Explorer. They thought it might be due to the wave form change caused by the Z1000.
I am not sure why you would want to feed the output of the Z1000 into the Explorer if you were running conventionally. Every time you turned the throttle off the Explorer would probably have to reboot. The reason I had experimented with the Z1000 between the brick and the Explorer was I wanted to reduce the track voltage down so I could run Legacy engines. If you want to run both conventional and DCS engines on the same loop of track (but not at the same time, of course) I would connect both the Z1000 and the Explorer each directly to the track and then connect the brick to whichever one was appropriate for the engine I was running.
That's what I'm doing proto 2 and 3 wifi explorer proto and old Lionel z1000 just moving the power cord between them
