Issue with Lionel GS2 6-38079

Hello All,

I'm working on an engine for Ricky (Texas Eagle 77). This is a TMCC engine that takes off when Odyssey is on, but runs fine when Odyssey is off. I saw old forums stating that the metal ring on the flywheel has been the issue with other engines, but the one on Ricky's engine looks fine. The engine was running fine and then just took off, then stopped when the reader could not "find" the steps.

Before I buy a new motor/flywheel for the engine, is there anything else I should be looking for?

All,

Just in case others have this issue and search for a solution, I was talking to John and he suggested what I look for. The magnet was fine, but the sensor was damaged (if you look at the second picture, you can see a crack in it above the Q1 label). I ordered a new one from Lionel ($6 +$10 shipping), installed it and it ran great with Odyssey on. I also upgraded the engine to 4 chuffs per revolution.

The video shows the results with a borrowed tender.
