Standard gauge GG1 it’s ALIVE. Handrails drilled, only need to drill for pantographs, make a couple of adjustments then into the body shop

Cool Jim,
I may have missed the back story on this build. Body, frame, wheels, etc.
All designed/custom made by you? I'd really like to see more as this project progresses.
I had my own "Its Alive" moment today. Lots of progress on my American Flyer alcove, to the point where I brought alive (if only for a moment) the Flyer engine I bought ay York. The first time I ever ran Flyer S gauge in my almost 69 years.
Ski,
This engine is all original. I made up casting patterns from 3D prints, worked with an Amish foundry to get them cast, built up the mechanisms from aluminum channel, using Boston worm gears, German can motors, timing belts to the 2nd and 3rd axles on each truck. 6 axles powered. Been fiddling with the model designs for about 2 years, and actively collecting parts for the past year. Will use the large LGB pantagraphs, painted black with silver contact shoe, red insulators. I'm painting this one in the late PRR single stripe/large keystone scheme in brunswick green. I'll be building at least 6 of these.

You da man, Jim
My gosh Jim, that is super killer kewel!!!! It's been a long time since I worked with a foundry and I suspect in this day and age they are getting harder to find and more expensive, but I know that is a bunch of work to get all squared away. The good think is once you have those plates set up, you can have em run some more castings. I love it!
That is beautiful
Thats so cool so much work and fun. Its amazing to be able to do this !!
Have built several of these now, working out very nicely.

Holy re-wire the basement Batman. So quiet! The cat whiskers striped version is... the cats meow !
Very nice work Jim!
What scale ratio is standard gauge?
That 5 strip 4935 is absolutely beautiful!! Your loco line up is very impressive.

Technically, standard gauge is about 1:26, but none of the trains scale out that big. The big Harmon Challengers that I build were designed to that scale, and they dwarf everything else on the railroad (ask men who own one!). I use 1:29 for my stuff, it's a little smaller, but overall dimensions (height, width) work well with the larger Lionel/AF and Ives sets. Thanks for the compliment - built (or modified in the case of the Cascade/NH) all myself. (Challenger photo attached)

I caught a hint of that engine in your earlier video, thanks for bringing it front and center. Another nice piece!
Didn't MTH also offer a standard gauge articulated awhile back?
