Hi guys,

I bought a pair of 3241 sets online yesterday, and have noticed in the photos, that the red locomotive has clipped pantographs. I searched on the Ives site and it's showing clipped pantographs as 1926/27/28, but not earlier. Would Ives have used clipped pantographs on earlier engines too?

Here's some details about the engines:

Red -

  • Cast-iron frame, with third rail shoes and painted steps
  • Cast-iron wheels in red
  • Green window frames
  • Gold lettering
  • Two Clipped pantographs
  • No 'R' stamping
  • No whistle
  • One bell

Green-

  • Frame is similar to red 3241
  • Wheels are similar to red 3241
  • Red window frames
  • Silver lettering
  •  Two Full size pantographs
  • No 'R' stamping
  • No whistle
  • One bell

Thanks,

Alex

Clipped pantographs are generally only on 1928-later product.  They are also usually made of thin brass stock.

Yours are likely modified by a prior owner, or replacement parts.

Earlier pantographs, for the red rubber stamped 3241’s are usually nickeled steel.
