Now that I have a train table built, I've thrown what I have of FasTrack on it to run trains until I can get my hands on the Atlas track I need for my layout plan.  Of that track used in the temporary layout is manual O36 switches.  The last axle on the tender of my K-Line Big Boy shorts out in the frog area when I am backing over them, unless I go at a higher speed, then I just get a spark.  It has made switching rather difficult.  The wheels on the axle have no flanges, and are narrow so that it can take O27 curves.  I was surprised it happened.  I guess I had just assumed that they were plastic like MTH does on their blind wheels used on their diesels, but K-Line used metal.

Has anyone had this happen, and what did you do to solve the problem?

It's not just the S curve of a siding that causes it, but a regular turn.  As for bigger, I don't have any.  Like I said, the FasTack is what I had on hand and is temporary until Atlas gets their track back in production and in stock at dealers.  It'll have some O36 switches too, but just in the small yard.  As for being tight for the BB, it's rated at O31 min and I've run it O27 just fine, and that included Marx switches on which it didn't short on.  These are the 1st switches it's ever shorted on of the 3 brands I've run it on, so I was wondering if someone else has had likewise.
