I just went in for one of these transformers to replace a CW-80 that powers my accessories. How is this transformer? A good buy? I got it for 50% retail new mint.

It’s a crap shoot has some had a defect. If I remember there is a fix. There’s been discussion on here before so maybe try a search. Otherwise it’s a great transformer.

Cool. I'll probably use the 8 volt output for signals, the 12 volt output for switches and accessories.
The K-0957 PowerChief Is a pretty powerful unit and very reliable. The K-0956 PowerChief, an electronic clone of the CW-80, can be temperamental.
Just got it in. It works great. It does have a hum to it similar to a postwar transformer but it's a lot better than the annoying fan of my CW80.

Good choice, I have had mine for years without any issues at all. Very stable and powerful. I have mine on the 15v tap for my Atlas switches.

Cool! I've got mine running on the 15v setting too.
I have a few and they have been bullet proof. However one starter set I bought came with one that instantly blew a breaker, as in the breaker in my breaker box. I was able to return the set (BTW anyone remember when Hobby Lobby sold O gauge?).
The ones that were not DOA still work.
