K-Line K615-1891 O Scale PRR N5C Caboose 477947 (Pittsburgh Region)

This is a nicely detailed K-Line N5C caboose that closely represents the PRR prototype. The model includes a lighted detailed interior, a smoke unit and diecast metal sprung trucks. A photo of a typical prototype caboose is shown.

Note: The smoke stack on the model appears to be too large for this scale model (although typical of models with a "smoke" unit). A scale size stack would improve the appearance of the caboose. The roof walks on the model seem to be sitting too high.

Also, as mentioned previously by Marc, the trucks are better positioned on the MTH model and, if studied closely enough, you'll note the angle of the ends of the cupola is a bit off on the old K-Line car.

Yes. The truck centers are incorrect. Looking for a way to adjust the truck spacing on this model. The attached photo shows the partly disassembled chassis.

Also Lionel steps would be a good replacement for the K-line caboose.  The Lionel versions are shorter and look better.

Yes, the more I look at the Kline version its a just a travesty of errors. I was thinking of swapping out the trucks and lowering it, but now that I look at it closely it may just have to hit the bay.

Right now the version with the antenna  is assigned to a track height clearance car, since double stacks are too modern for my layout and will not be running on it... this is THE  highest car in my fleet.

The rake of the cupola ends is MUCH more than a bit off!  The profile of this model looks nothing like a PRR cabin car copula.  This why I never bought one.

I have a similar caboose, but from a different region. The only problem I have with mine is that the port hole windows popped out on a few port holes on the ends of the caboose. Unfortunately it looks like it is a major pain to get inside.

It is easy to make repairs to the chassis or body if necessary.  First gently detach the end ladders.  Then remove 4 screws on the corners to release the roof section.

See photo. The 4 posts that are shown attach the roof. The screws are very small Phillips style.
