K4 / LEGACY / PRR # 3667 - No Sound !!

I have the exact same K4.

Try putting the tender on the tracks without the locomotive connected.  If it doesn't drop to conventional mode that way, you'll doubtless have to open it up.  First step is to reseat all the connectors and boards.  You should be able to control the whistle & bell with a transformer with it alone on the tracks.

P.S.

You can try a Legacy tender from another steamer as long as it has the same configuration wireless tether to see if anything is amiss in the locomotive.  Your issue sounds like a tender issue, but you never know.

I sent my 11327 back for a new volume control, the one in the tender. Sometimes , if you turn it back and forth it might start working again.worth a try.

I just did this test and it did not work. I opened it and all wires disconnected and connected again and it did not work.
Put my transformer 80 W The Polar Express and nothing!

I have a Mikado and put the tender on it and did not work.
Then put the tender of Mikado in K4 and it usually worked.
What to do?

If he was changing the volume and then it happened, it could well be the pot.  If you have the shell off, there's an easy way to check.

Center the pot, and then short the center and one outside pin, then in a separate step short the center and the other outside pin.  One of them should give you full volume if the pot is bad.

I tried the test and nothing. When using conventional power when the whistle goes a very low noise that needs to put his ear close to listen.

Opening of the tender and called the Mikado ponteciometro it in the K4 and tend also to no avail nothing changed.

I realized that the sound cards and S1 are identical, but I was afraid to try replacing the S1 to dismiss the same.

Did you just try the S1 tender on the K4?  It won't hurt anything, and it'll isolate it for sure.

It sounds like either the speaker or the sound board.  If you feel lucky, try an 8 ohm speaker for the one in that tender.

** The speaker I've ever put in Mikado and it worked perfect.

With the wireless tether, there is no risk of damage, the only thing that connects them is the IR beam.  Virtually all Legacy locomotives, assuming the tether is the same type, will work with other tenders.  Older ones have the IR box below the drawbar, newer ones have the IR components above the drawbar.

Did replacing the S1 and the test continued fault, so I had another idea to get the sound card of K4 and test the Mikado, because then I eliminate the wires and other faults and then continued to the fault conclusion is that the board even with this fault.

Really sad, because hardly used the locomotive and bought on Ebay as I have no warranty so I have to buy a new card.

You should just have to send the board, right?  That'll be a lot cheaper for you than sending the whole tender.

Finally came the board and yesterday I made the change, and everything worked beautifully!
Only was the concern of how this can happen, but now is enjoy.
