Being a longtime fan of The Andy Griffith Show, I felt that the Courthouse would be a nice addition to the layout. After research and screen shots we came up with a pretty nice example...

The doors & windows are custom cut and fit very nice. There is nothing close to the front 1st floor windows offered commercially, this is all unique & custom.

The building is .25" mdf, the windows & doors are laser board and there is custom cut glazing for the windows.

Needless to say, I am very pleased with the end product.

We are open to selling a few unpainted kits if there is an interest. This is what is included.

  • (4) .25" brick engraved mfd walls
  • (9) complete windows for the top level. This is outer window mullions, the clear window, and inner window mullions. 27 total pieces for the top windows
  • (3) complete windows for the first level. Including the interior & exterior mullions and clear, this is 9 total pieces
  • (1) front door
  • (1) side door
  • (7) pieces of top trim to go on the front
  • (1) front step
  • (4) pieces of wood trim for the front
  • (1) front porch roof, this includes 2 dowel rods, and the 3 pieces used to make the overhang. The overhang is grooved so you can hide an LED under the roof, and the porch is also pre-drilled for the dowel rod columns.
  • (3) pieces of pre-cut mdf for the roof, the second floor and the first floor. This would allow you to build a complete interior, and give Otis a place to sleep...
  • (4) drilled blocks for column tops & bases
  • Engraved sign for over the door.
  • (4) pieces of engraved trim to go over the cut edges of the mdf walls, to cover the cut areas.

The mdf is dry brushed on the brick pattern- this was my first dry brush attempt and came out pretty well IMHO. The windows were all laid out and spray painted. Once the paint was dry, I flipped them and sprayed 3m spray adhesive on them. I then laid the "glass" on the once mullion, then laid another mullion down, making a sandwich. This technique was super fast and easy.

This was my baby, and I brought AG from this forum in on it. I sent him the design, we worked it out, and he produced the product. I give him two thumbs up. There is a lot of detail parts, but they go together relatively simply.

This was a very fun project, and was very rewarding to see a vision come to life. I already have Floyd's Barbershop produced, and is in paint & assembly now. Floyd's is over 100 pieces! I intend on making a few more Mayberry buildings, I have never seen anything remotely close to scale or with any detail ever offered. I just need to find an old 1962 4 door Galaxy to park in front now...

This building has a footprint of 7"x8.75" not including the front porch.

(Go ahead & whistle- you know you want too)

Thanks!

Thanks Harry-
It is amazing how much work goes into a project like this, from idea to drawing paper to final product. It gives me a new appreciation for folks that try to turn their concept into a product, especially ones that use 100% made in the USA material.

One of the things I LOVE about this building is the VERY close tolerances between the parts. I have not painted the front door yet- so it isn't glued in place. As a matter of fact, NOTHING is holding it in place. It just fits that well! The windows- not glued either. Once they were in place, I simply painted the sills to "set" them in. This also will seal them from any interior light leakage. The tolerances with this set in regard to parts, (doors & windows) with this building can be measured with a micrometer.

This building costs $140, plus shipping. This is the best we can do to cover our cost in material & design work.

The Barbershop has over twice the amount of detail. It is going to have some pretty cool options, as it is modular construction, a couple ideas will be combined to produce a building that is unlike anything I have ever seen. Forgive me as I digress-

The Courthouse was very simple & straightforward to assemble, even for the amount of detail parts. I am happy to provide all the references for the paints & adhesives as purchased from Hobby Lobby.

The top arch trim is hand made from Cherry. There was a jig set up in the wood shop to custom cut this piece. There was only enough cherry for 10 kits, so this is by no means going to be a mass produced building, as the process to cut the arch is not a quick & easy task. I also think it is worth stating this is 100% made in the USA of USA material. There is no mass produced windows shipped over, this is all custom built.

Thanks for the interest, I know you will be as happy with the product, as I am proud of it.

I only intend on 10 models, so out of sight inside the building each one will be laser engraved with the date & which model number you receive, (1 of 10 etc.)

If I don't email you in a day or so, (if I can't find your contact info in your profile, please email me directly for orders. My contact is in my profile, and I will return an order form to you.

Again, thanks for the interest. I look forward to getting the Barbershop posted!

Roger
