Trying out this option. I have 2 engines that operate at different speeds when I run them separately or when they are put together in a lashup. Lashup aI put the faster engine 1st forward and the 2nd engine(slower) backwards. Is this going to hurt the engines?

A small speed difference won't hurt anything. None of my engine pairs run exactly the same speed. Just put the faster one in front and check it because it will work harder on a long train. If the speed difference is a lot I would not run them together.
2 or more Legacy engines work well, I've even put 1 or 2 at the front of a train, 1 or 2 in the middle and 1 or 2 at the end as helpers, you can make a really long train and the cars will not derail. Try it LOL! But they must all be Legacy.
When the speed difference is too much, you'll smell it. In order for the lead engine to maintain the speed you have it set at, if the tailing engine is holding it back too much, the cruise control will increase the voltage to the motor in order to compensate. The rear engines cruise control will decrease in voltage to slow it down if it's being forced to go faster then its interpretation of that same speed. Just to play it safe, after running a few laps with the smoke shut off, put your nose down close to the engines and smell if the motors are getting hot. If they are, you know the speed difference is too much and they are fighting each other.
