Hi All,

I'm looking around the web for something to put on the wall behind my son's layout table to give it a "deeper" look.  I'm picturing some sort of poster or something, of mountain scenes...or perhaps farm land?  I'm sure some have painted their own on the wall, or bought something, somewhere.  Paper poster might be too shiny), vinyl wall decals?  Where would I find something like this, if they do exist.  Figured it was time to ask the experts!

I bought these commercially available city background scenes. I laminated them and cut out the sky part since they used different shades of blue. They then meshed well together - as you see. Total cost for a very decent, in my humble opinion, background is $40. It covers most of my 8' background wall on one side of my layout. This company, I cut off the name in the back - sorry, also makes small town, industrial (I have one of those), and country scenes. My LHS has stacks and stacks of this product. If I ever find the name I'll post it. Good luck to you.

I tried to in vain order from the Backdrop website. Had the $$, dimensions and knew what I wanted to buy. When I called, I learned that the quality of their customer service is commensurate with their website. My hat is off to anyone that is successful in ordering anything from these folks.

I ended up ordering from ScenicExpress. Very nice folks.

Still wish I could have gotten the Skyline Drive (Virginia) backdrop for my train room.

On the way up to our mountain cottage I set up the tripod and started shoting some Blue Ridge scenery with the thought that I might get it converted to background. I didn't notice the storm you can see moving in but when lighning smoked a tree just below on the mountain I bailed.

I was at the top of of the 8% grade on Wilkes Mountain which is the primary reason Southern Railway never got to Boone, N.C.  The N&W headed for Boone from Virginia along the East Fork of the north flowing New River but terminated at Todd, N.C. 11 miles away. So it was left to the little narrow gauge East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Ry ["Tweetsie"] to come from Johnson City, Tennessee in the west to reach Boone via multiple tunnels and trestles. However the floods of 1950 put the ET&WNC out of business for good.

I will try again in the spring or summer.IMG_1815
