Fabulous accessory in what looks to be a very conservative footprint!!!

 

LOL at the play on letters in the plant's name. 

Gee, not exactly the happy and carefree item I would associate with Lionel trains.   Will there be a cancer hospital next in the series? 

 

Lionel has released numerous AEC cars over the years, what's the big deal?

We really need to take all of this in stride, folks.  Can't take everything so seriously.  Lionel has always dabbled in nuclear-related themes, as far back as I can remember... most notably the radio-active waste flatcar with two glowing canisters.  I have an MPC version from the early 1980's... and I think that was a re-release of a similar car from Lionel's postwar era (although I'm not 100% certain).

Every layout needs a little industry. A lot of of action in a small space. That's a Winner!

Lou, looks like a whole list of new and exciting items from Lionel and LCCA including the nuclear reactor plant with all the added goodies.  You guys are on a roll for sure, see you in Portland.

Wonder if  there are any 1/48 scale Homer Simpson figures available that could used with the accessory? I never watched much of the show, but seems he could be on a donut break outside the building when the alarms go off.

Needs another cooling tower, but otherwise it looks pretty cool.

Very interesting BUT, the Administration Building should(Shall) not be juxtaposed Reactor Building.  The arrangement would be:

Administration Building

Turbine Building

Auxiliary Building

Reactor Building

Fuel Pool Building (Behind or beside RxBldg)

Back in the 50's & 60's, I remember GM touting that there would "one day" be nuclear-powered cars and trucks: "No more gas fill-ups!".

I remember too the A.C. Gilbert Atomic Reactor science kit - My God, can you imagine the screaming today if it came back to the toy shelves?

Glad to hear that, 2 cooling towers will be just about right for the space I have. To build my Nuke plant, a church and a gas station will have to moved but hey I need to generate electricity.

NO I believe he was one of the TWO scientists Doing the annual Emergency systems back up tests that caused it all!

Between my current coal industries and future nuke plant, the people of Lionelville will have enough electricity to charge their "green" electric cars!

The concepts and features of this are well conceived but the proportions and shapes are not doing it for me.  Not enough hyperbola on the hyperbolic cooling tower and the containment top is too egg shaped instead of an actual dome.  I know it is not built too scale and they want to keep a modest footprint but I need a little more proportion.  But hey, this will encourage me to build one from scratch someday and eventually sell my Lionel 463 Disco Ball reactor.

This is good idea, because cooling towers are also not limited to just nuclear plants.

 

One could also have a nuclear plant without a cooling tower.  Thirty years ago I spent two summers working construction at the South Texas Nuclear Project, and the engineers opted to cool the reactors with water from a 7,000 acre lake instead of using cooling towers.

Gotta agree with Steims... The cooling tower really is the wrong shape.

I like the idea of the overall design but if you're gonna do it then do it right.

Maybe skip the time on weathering and dusting and get the overall shape of the tower and dome correct.
