I bought a 12V 1A AC Adapter Power Supply Charger with Interchangeable DC Plugs because the Lionel part has a different plug that the standard SIMSUKIAN AC/DC Adapter SK02G - 1200100U.  The SIMSUKIAN stock part has a 5.5 mm plug.  The Lionel version has a 3 mm or 2.5 mm plug.  If no one comments on this posting by tomorrow night, I'm going to give it a try on one module (not the wifi module) and see what happens. 

You can lop off the connector from the dead LCS power brick and splice it to the new P/S you purchased.  As long as it's 12V regulated and you get the polarity right, it should work fine.

Volts is volts, so there's no reason that wouldn't work.
