Hello.  I recently purchased a BPC2 for the purpose of establishing several power districts on my layout. I have two PH180s, one to power a mainline and several blocks within each.

The BPC2 instructions indicate that a DB-9 cable with a pig-tail for transformer power is necessary.  I've scoured the internet and the particular cable that is mentioned - 6-81499 - is seemingly out of stock everywhere.  Is this a sign that I should move on from the BPC or is there an alternative means to 'build' the right cable connection?  (e.g. some form of molex connector etc?)

Thank you in advance for any suggestions,

Scott

I will take a shot here. The 6-81499 cable and the LCS Wi-Fi module become obsolete with the release of the new Base 3. That is because the Base 3 will have three ports to directly plug in DBI cables along with a built in Wi-Fi module. These PDI ports will be powered. Unfortunately the Base 3 is almost a year behind its original anticipated shipping date. I am guessing Lionel has already ceased production of the 6-81499 cable and the Wi-Fi module.

Wow, even though that may be true, some of us have used the LCS system on our layout for a long time.  I have tons of modules.  So, if my cable got damaged or PS dies, I'd be forced to buy a Base 3?  I see the cable is no longer in the last catalog, so it seems you are correct.

Thank you Marty!  But shoot - but by the time I got to the site it was out of stock!

What does it suggest if the cable is so elusive? Is the bpc2 obsolete?

I have found 5 different hobby shops selling them online listed as in stock for under $37.  I was going to email links to you, but you don't have an email listed in your profile.  If still interested, email me and I will reply with the retail sellers I found.

The power supply is fairly common.  The cable can be repaired with a little effort or sacrifice an existing PDI cable .  I don't think anyone will be forced to buy a Base3.

I'm sure if we asked nicely @Dave Olson might even supply the pin out of the connectors.
