Legacy 993/ Dumb question

I have no issues running 1.4, I've just been contemplating updating it, just for the sake of it.

If you have 1.4 you can grab a black module or 2 and usb serial dongle and upgrade your own base. It will not come with newer software because the the remote would be the only upgrade needed as the base in the #993 is only a charger.

So then the 993 handheld comes software-less?

No the handheld will come with some version of software on it but if there is a module for it it will be only for it. you will still need to find a module to upgrade your 990 base. I just ordered one and will be able to tell for sure in a couple days.

FWIW  I just today received a new 993 expansion pack.  It came with a single blue module, marked Cab2 v 1.6.  I already have 1.7, so I just upgraded before I put the cab2 in service.
