My legacy base has the red light blinking all the time, this also keeps the handheld from from having the speed or speed steps from showing. It don't happen every time I run.
when it does happen everything else is fine like whistle, sound and control Etc. sometimes the bell is harder to shut off though.

That blinking red light indicates a command signal is being received or sent from the Cab2. I have also observed this, and have found it to be caused by a stuck button on the Cab2. In my case it was the Brake/Boost Multicontroller button that was stuck. This interferes with other commands being sent from the Cab2. The next time this occurs, check the buttons on your Cab2.
