Legacy Recording

I have been using the Legacy record feature for several years now, and really like it. The manual states that any feature that can be controlled by the remote may be programed. However, while I can program start, stop, whistle, bell, announcements, speed (up or down), I have never been able to program smoke on or off, successfully. That is, smoke on/off, will not playback while all other programed features will. Right now I have been programing 3 Legacy engines, Santa Fe Northern, Santa Fe Atlantic, and Weyerhouser Shay, in a single program and again everything records and plays back except the smoke feature. Am I missing something? I did a Legacy Record search and found nothing.
