Hi Mike,

Unfortunately it is not a set, but rather some stuff I put together with a few homemade items. Lionel made the Snoopy and Woodstock handcar back in 1990-1991, if I remember correctly. The Charlie Brown (and the gang) figures are from a company now called Forever Fun. The flatcar is just a shortened Lionel flatcar from their New York Flyer set. New Peanuts figures are available from Time and Space Toys. You can find the figures I used and the handcar on eBay at times. The figures were from a set called the "Charlie Brown Christmas mini clip-on figures." Search on Google and you might find them.

Hope this helps!

Take care, Joe.

Inspired by Jim Policastro's three part series. This will be it's third year displayed. Tried to give it away minus the center scenery (I was including the tunnel and of course the bridge along with three Plasticville building kits and a foam base for a replacement center section) last year at Christmas. The "Dad" wouldn't even bother to come to the house to pick it up when he found out it didn't include the trains and transformer.

This is loaded with Lemax stuff picked up from the local craft store "on-sale".

Two years ago at CVS drug store, I saw a cool Peanuts "Great Pumpkin" decoration for Halloween. It was like an ice skating toy, but instead of skaters, the kids were in the costumes they wore on the cartoon and roamed around the pumpkin patch. I decided the $20 price tag was still not worth it for a photo on my train layout. Instead I went with these Hershey's Collectibles figurines to add to my Hershey's Centennial train set.

Below are some Reeses boxes on a pallet, being loaded at the station. They remain from a broken K-Line flatbed truck I got earlier.

And a photo of the train.
OK, I have never done a Halloween layout but am considering one this year.
The family always has a big party and we decorate the entire property at my Father in Laws house. It has made the paper several times so we do OK.

This year the theme is Halloween 3000. We have one main set piece already, A 12' octagonal foil covered flying saucer complete with lights and 4' tall little green men. It's pretty heavy but I'm looking at making it hover on a cable...

I recently got a Phantom engine and car set and I'm thinking it will be perfect for the theme. I may even have it drag gondolas or hoppers of candy out for the trick or treat crowd. It needs a few glow in the dark 2" tall aliens tho...

Any thoughts on this?

Speaking of which, we had nothing related to Halloween cars or layouts in the Oct/Nov issue of OGR.

If you submit them (with high-res images) they will possibly appear. Smile

Now is the time to begin thinking in those terms for next year's Oct./Nov. issue. If you do something special with a Halloween theme, either on a section of your "regular" layout or via a specially built layout, consider documenting the theme with good photos and sending them to me at your convenience.
looking for some free halloween scenery projects?...try this...

Here's a video I did a couple of years ago featuring my Halloween stuff. I wanted to demonstrate some of the sound, animated and operating cars. All of the spooky sounds in the video are being generated by the SpookySounds boxcar Lionel did around the same time as the 4-4-0. The train was accessorized with O-sized skeletons and coffins that are available from Scenic Express.

Hey Guys,

Just writing a quick announcement.

On Oct. 16th, the New Jersey Hi-Railers is having a Halloween-themed open house. Recently, Ben posted a few photos from last year where monsters were invading Silk City in a huge rampage.

This year, the monsters are organized, and are being led by.............???

Well, we can't WHAT it is yet. But you will be surprised!

To see more photos from last year, check out our fan page on Facebook at "The New Jersey Hi-Railers Train Club."

See you around.

Jim P (or anyone else for that matter), I was thinking of creating a platform from thick foam similar to yours. My question is, if I set the foam on a tabletop, how many inches of overhang can I get away with in supporting Dept 56 buildings? Is there a 4 inch thick foam or would I need to glue two 2 inch sheets together to obtain that thickness? If I recall, you used 2 inch foam for your layout...is this correct? I'm not so sure I could have, say, a ten inch overhang with buildings/structures and or trains positioned on the overhang without any support below.

Your feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

Rick,

I don't think 10" overhang with 2" foam would be any problem for the Dept 56 houses or the trains. However, if kids will be gathering around the edges and possibly "hanging" on it, you might want to glue a layer of thin plywood (luan or 1/4") under it - would not add much weight, but a lot of strength.

I don't know of 4" foam, but you could always laminate two layers of 2" foam.

Jim
