Likes

Dan- this is what the "Like" emails look like. Yes- you do know who responded to your post. I'm assuming you have the email notifications turned on in your profile.

I receive notice of them via e-mail, which allows me the ability to say Thank You to them on the forum thread where they have seen something they feel merits "Likes."

Dan, they also show up in your alert list, even if you have the email option turned off.

Click on your name in the upper right, and they show up as an alert with a red number. Click on ALERTS, and they are listed.

I had to turn the email notices off because.  My in-box was overflowing.

I know the feeling. I limit mine to just a couple of the potential categories.

You been talking to my old boss???

I turned the Alerts on and all it does is give me every new posting, whether or not I have read that post.  

What I was looking for was, Who leaves the likes at the bottom left of a post I may have made.

Dan, there should be a few options to choose from when it comes to receiving emails. I think there is just one you really want. Turn off the others, and you'll just get the like emails.

Dan,

Go to "Update Profile".

Click on "Notifications" in the column on the left.

Check the boxes for"Email" and for "On site alerts".

Click on the "Primary Notifications" tab at the top of the page to the right of the "settings" tab.

Scroll down to the bottom under "Influence Notifications" and check off the boxes for what you want to receive.

Make sure you don't have any of the other boxes checked.

All I check off are the 4 items listed under "Influence Notifications" plus the "Administrative Events" box.

You also have the choice of getting an Instant Email, which sends an individual email message for every event you have checked, or a Weekly Digest, which will send you a single email once per week with all your checked notifications in that ONE email. That cuts down on the inbox problem.

I'm not sure I have explained what I am looking for.  Let me try once more.  

When I read a post that I like, I usually click on the "Like" word at the bottom left corner of that post.  When someone "Likes" a post that I have written I would like to know who it was that left the "Like".

As John H and Elliot said, it can work with no email notifications turned on.

Click on "Alerts" in the drop-down on your profile.  Likes will show up, but I'm not sure how long they stay.  I have a few going back to around a week ago on mine (so maybe they clear after a week?) when using this method.  It also could vary depending on whether you look at them or not.  When you have un-viewed Alerts, there is a red ball with the number next to it.

Certainly the red ball clears, but even though I have reviewed them, I have 3 from last week still showing if I go to "Alerts".

As far as I can tell, alerts stay on the page until they get pushed off the bottom. Not a set time, but rather a set number visible.

My like button working is an on and off affair.  

I can promise you I owe you a couple dozen Dan.

RSJB18 and Big Boy always seem to catch the short end of that stick too FWIW
