Does anyone know if the Lionchief Universal Remote can be used to run the Lionel RS-11 D&H Diesel locomotive?

I believe the hobby store owner I bought this remote from yesterday said it can be used to run that diesel engine, but the manual for the Lionchief universal remote says it can be used to run Lionchief and Lionchief Plus engines (no mention of this RS-11 Diesel). Also, the Lionel RS-11 Diesel locomotive Manuel mentions Digital Trainmaster Command but nothing about the Lionchief universal remote.

Is the RS-11 a lionchief or lionchief plus engine?   I have heard and read that the 2018 legacy engines will run on the universal remote.   Is the RS-11 even Bluetooth?

Thanks Jim, My recollection is that the guy who sold it to me at a train show said it was legacy, but that  Word is not on the box or manual. There is also no mention of Lionchief or Lionchief plus on the box.

The box says the serial # is 6-18596 and it is Command equipped. And has towercom.

I think it was a 2015, 2016 or 2017 product.

I greatly appreciate all of your input. This Forum is so great for that.

I’m brand new to modern Lionel engines. I don’t think Command Cintrol is good for me because it is complex and I have a conventional wired layout with an MTH Z4000 transformer.

The Lionchief  plus engines with remote unit is perfect for me because it is so simple to operate and works great on my layout. I would call that simple system “For Train Dummies.” I consider that a compliment to Lionel because simplicity is very desirable for me and other operators who want or need to keep things simple.

So I will not attempt to run this engine using the universal remote so as not to screw up the engine.

Thanks again.

The 18596 was cataloged in the 2001 vol. 1 catalog so the universal remote won't control it.  You are correct the universal remote will control Lionel engines that are equipped with Bluetooth.

Gee, I’m surprised this engine goes back to year 2001. I might not have bought it if I knew that. No wonder it was only $329.

It is a pretty engine and runs well, but not as well as my new Lionchief plus 2017 NJ Central Zpacific Steamer using the remote unit.
