Good Day Forum,
I am trouble shooting a Lionel 022 RH switch that will not function properly. With the power on, the switch only stays in one position...the curve position. Manually rotating the globe (again, with the power on), the switch will not move to the straight direction.
The switch will rotate back and forth with the power off, so I know there is nothing mechanical binding the movement. My sense there is an electrical short that is causing the problem.
I suspect there is an issue with the non-derailing section in the curve track. After removing the bottom plate of the switch, it appears to too much solder may have leaked from the metal tab located on the bottom of the curved track section. This may have compromised the separation of the two rails that are designed not to touch.
If so, my thought was to remove the two section of rails from the plastic base, and attempt to remove the solder. Once the solder is removed, replace the 2 rails, and re-solder the metal tab being careful not to over solder.
Does anyone have any additional thoughts on this that they would like to share?
Thank you.
Urbie
