If it was previously working ok while attached to the accessory connection on your transformer and suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason, then the problem probably lies elsewhere than your wiring.

Just to be on the safe side, you should test the output voltage of the accessory terminals on your transformer with a volt meter to make sure it is putting out power. You could also dis-connect the accessory terminal output wires from the beacon and attach them to a different accessory and see if that works.

Just a suggestion, but you might get more response if you have a more descriptive title as to what your problem is.

You are so right.  The word Larry chose is without a about the most non-descript word you could pick to describe the actual problem, and much worse yet, a word that would, if entered into the search box, result in no discernable help at all because of the massive torrent of hits that would return.

Nice to see though that Larry is getting help in spite of it.

Hi,

My Lionel rotating Beacon stopped ROTATING, I currently have it attached to my accessory connection on my transformer, would it work if I attached the wires to my variable transformer connection, the ones I use to power up  & run my 2037 Steam Engines.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi Larry

As others have suggested, give us a little more info to work with.  These guys are good at busting chops but they'll also get your question answered with additional information.

Any further information I can supply is that.................................

1. --------I'm using the little rubber Nibs...............Tried 3 different  rubber Nibs...............same problem with all of them

2. .........Attached to my accessory transformer

3......... Not turning, but bulb is very bright, the only way it's turning is when I throw it against the wall.

4 .................Had sprayed a drop or 2 of WD40, between the Rubber Nibs & washer, good or bad ??????????????

5.........................Would it help if I attached the wires from accessory to variable on my transformer ?????????????????

1. Remove rubber ring with nibs.

2. Thoroughly clean out oils, dirt, etc inside rotating beacon piece. Also clean area on top of electromagnet (around base of light)

3. Put in a light touch of rubber cement like Walthers Goo on a new ring with nibs and insert. (I got my last ring off eBay)

4. Add graphite powder

5. Use variable transformer. Different voltages give different results--not too high and not too low!

I sure hope you get the problem solved but your throwing it against the wall was beautiful. We’ve all been there and done that. Thanks for the laugh.

Is the electromagnet coil working? Take off the top and put a piece of steel to it. You should feel the magnet when it is powered. There is really nothing else to this accessory. The coil rarely burns out but.....
