This photo is a simple, no flash, handheld image comparing two LIONEOL 15" passenger cars: the bottom car has LED lighting per the gunrunnerjohn/stan2004 components; and, the top car uses LIONEL's incandescent lights. Both cars are LIONEL's ubiquitous 2533/34-type coaches. The top car is a repaint in GM&O livery; and, the bottom car shell is gray primer. Here's the photo:
As this was a spur-of-the-moment photo set-up, I did not measure the voltage for the LED's. The voltage for the track was ~18 VAC. I simply wanted a quick-and-dirty visual comparison; and, that's what I got.
Incidentally, the LED coach was a demo project done for me by a forum member. He had posted on the forum about putting LED's in MTH cars and I contacted him because, while grj and stan2004 have responded repeatedly on similar topics, there was no single "how to" post or thread. He replied that the easiest way for me to see what's done was for me to send him a disassembled car and he'd do an LED installation and return the car to me--I could then look at his installation and see how it's done. I did this; he did the LED install using the grj/stan2004 components; and returned the car to me. I was then able to look at the physical installation of the board, LED's, and wiring--excellent for my purposes as I prepare to do my own installations--the grj and stan2004 components are already here.
Not only did this generous forum member do the car for me, and then repackage and send it back to me, he also supplied links to the board, LED's, and wiring vendors necessary for the project on Amazon and Ebay. I simply ordered what he directed.
