Hello Everyone:

I have an old Lionel 154 Signal accessory that was working fine but now only one of the lights (on the left) lights up when the train passes through an insulated track section.  I assumed the bulb on the right was just burned out, but replaced it with a new one and it still wouldn't light.  I checked all the wiring connections from the insulated track to the signal and everything is in place.  I also removed the signal and checked the soldered wire connections on the signal underneath but nothing seems amiss.  The socket that holds the bulb also seems o.k., but is it possible this is where the problem is?  It has a bayonet-mounted bulb.  Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Maybe I misread, but did you try holding the unit upside down, and applying power directly to the lead that goes to the side that isn't lighting (with a neutral wire attached to the frame)?  If it's still dead (with a good bulb), then maybe try gently scraping the inside of the bulb socket with an x-acto knife.

Good luck; the 154 is a great accessory...

Most times it's the ground.  That would be the lamp housing- try a light sanding of the socket using a dowel w/ medium sandpaper wrapped around it.  Then look at joints that connect the ground side, Lionel and others used crimped steel joints to make ground connections.  If any are loose, that could be the issue, and a simple squeeze could re-establish that connection.
