I recently purchased a 1999-era Lionel Pennsy E6 engine #460.  Initially, the sounds were great, but over time the chuffing has become irregular. Sometimes it misses several chuffs and then starts again, and sometimes the chuffs all come at one time like a machine gun.  Apparently there is a sensor that needs to be cleaned, or is dirty track the culprit (engine runs smoothly but with occassional whistle blows).   Where is this sensor and how do I get to it for cleaning?

Thanks everyone.

Dale
