Hi Folks,

Did anyone happen to save the Lionel shipping schedule from the website BEFORE their 1/30/2013 update?  I recall seeing a 2012 Dealer Appreciation Boxcar listed, but it's no longer there.  So I guess it's shipped???    See... this is the problem with shipped items just "disappearing" from the list... we can't go back and get info on them.

Anyway, if anyone here had saved the list as a PDF -- something I'm NOW going to do each month  -- could you please let me know the 6-dash number for that car?  These boxcars since 2010 have had graphics based on their respective year's catalog.  Nice touch.  I have the cars from 2010 and 2011... so I'd like to see what the 2012 car looks like.

The prices for these cars are all over the map.  Some dealers want over $125 for them, while others sell them for $29.95.  Gotta love stuff that dealers think are "collectibles".

Thanks, in advance, for any info on this boxcar!

Hi David,

I did some checking and it first appeared on the 12-3-12 shipping list as 6-34360 thru to the 12-31-12 shipping list.

I could not find it on any earlier list.

But I looked on Charles Ro sites and they have it listed as a 6-34323 and I did not find that number on any shipping list.

I hope that helps you, it must be on it's way.

Hi folks, just thought I'd revive this thread to let everyone know that Lionel has, in fact, shipped the 2012 Dealer Appreciation Car as 6-34360.  It's my understanding that each authorized Lionel dealer received ONE car.  But I'm sure some of the dealers with strong connections to Lionel may be able to source a few more as "left-overs" or extras become available at the Lionel warehouse.  Who knows... perhaps some of you attending the Lionel/LCCA event this weekend may find a great deal on extras at the NC warehouse.

I grabbed one the other day on eBay.  Acquisitions from bidding appear to settle in around $45-$50 plus shipping, while the buy-it-now sellers are trying to push $80-$100 plus shipping.  So for now it's better to try your luck at bidding.

Overall, it's a nice car with graphics that coordinate with the 2012 Signature Catalog featuring the Blue Comet locomotive.  Although I've pretty much standardized on Lionel's scale offerings these days, the dealer appreciation cars are traditional-sized O-Gauge box cars that I'll likely use for display pieces rather than see any track time.

Search the Bay for pictures of 6-34360.  There are no shortages of them out there whatsoever.

Prior to 2007 these boxcars were all Christmas themed and given to dealers at Toy Fair. The 2007 car was the first Dealer Appreciation car but also Christmas themed.

The only Dealer Appreciation boxcar made so far without Christmas or catalog graphics came in 2008 and IMO, its the nicest one of all so far..

Every D/A car given away since then (six total) has been decorated with catalog graphics. Don't believe any of the six are rare or hard to find.

LIONEL # 34360 DEALER APPRECIATION 2012 BOXCAR BRAND NEW NEVER REMOVED FROM BOX

Slightly branching off of your topic of the 2012 car Dave, but just an observation about some of the previous years cars.

I purchased the Tastykake cars offered by the Atlantic Division as fund raisers for the 2014 TCA convention that will be held in Cherry Hill, NJ.

I purchased 4 total of the 2 cars offered (so far), and "old stock" cars were used for the repainting done for these cars.  3 of my 4 cars came in shipping cartons indicating they started life as 2011 Dealer Appreciation cars.  (the final one was a 2011 LRRC Christmas car)

Just thought that might be interesting since that would seem to indicate that at some point (at least for 2011 cars), they were not the "one per dealer" production.  Either extras were made or many dealers didn't want them when Lionel offered, so they became available for this project.

In any event, it would be interesting to see if in the long run this makes the 2011 cars harder to find if a lot of them got repainted.
