Interested in the Virginian Y-3, but I'm probably not going to preorder it. There's been too many blowouts of other Lionel steam engines, so I think I'll wait and see how the pricing goes after its released.

Disappointed in the C&O H-7. Since the first release had the Vanderbilt tender (and I have that one) it would have made sense to do this re-release with the rectangular tender. The tender on the UP version is a C&O tender as the UP bought H-7's from the C&O equipped with that rectangular tender. Most of the H-7's in C&O service were re-equipped with this tender around 1930. It seems like issuing an easy variation of an earlier release would encourage sales to people that bought the earlier version. Apparently Lionel doesn't like to spend a lot of time on prototype research.

Like the E-8/9's although no roadnames I'm interested in.

Ken

Probably nothing. A boxcar at most. There are three Milwaukee Road items in the new catalog:

E unit set - UP yellow diesels are the least desirable Milwaukee Road passenger engines. For $939 MSRP I can live without it. Anyway, I already have K-Line F units and a Lionel Bi-Polar in yellow to pull the yellow K-Line passenger cars.

UP yellow passenger set - Other than the Skytop observation car, the picture shows an off the shelf generic passenger set painted for Milwaukee Road. Short dome car, square windows on the baggage car - not correct for the Milwaukee. Fortunately I have the much superior K-Line cars, so this one is a non-starter.

PS-1 boxcar - Might get this one, but I have the MTH version of the same car with the same paint from a few years back, so not exactly a priority at $69.95.

I'm not disappointed, though - I've got too many trains already, so this catalog is a good reason to save my money!

I would love to order the Burlington Zephyr set, but my curves are too sharp to allow that. But I will be ordering a set of Burlington E units, and a Norfolk Southern SD-40, and that Sante Fe dash-9 looks just too beautiful to miss. And then…………….

All in all, I think that we have been presented with an excellent catalogue of goodies to drool over.

Same with me.

I like the idea of train control via tablet, but I'm strictly an Android guy and I use Gargraves & Ross, not Fast-Track so I guess this won't be for me whenever/if ever it comes out.

But that’s the way it goes. The money I won’t be spending on the Signature catalog will go to my other interest -- tinplate from LCT.

I echo your sentiments.  I am also a bit disappointed with the LCT catalog.  I prefer my tinplate to be Lionel, AF branded etc. w/o prototypical road names.  The tinplate prices have also jumped a fair amount.

I liked the Neil Young Texas Special passenger set, especially if the 15" cars have the same chrome/stainless look of the 21" scale TexSpec from a few years ago but probably will still pass with the $900 street price.  I was disappointed that there was no Lionmaster.

Looks like my money will most likely go to MTH's Railking Imperial PRR and possibly GE Hybrid ES44AC.

There is not a lot of Legacy steam that runs on smaller than 0-54. No Lionmaster again :-( ..... Is Lionel missing a large market segment?  I have a 5x12 layout, bottom level is all Fastrack with 0-36 and 0-48 turns.  My upper level is Lionel tubular at 0-42.    The NYC Heritage says 0-54 as well.

My observation may be wrong I just looked at it quick while at work.  I will give it a better look tonight.

trainman713,

I noticed that, too (about the LCT prices).  This could be the first year in many that I opt out of multiple catalogs.

I’ve been thinking about the special edition tinplate Prospector being offered by LCCA and that may be my sole new purchase. Even that is going for ~ $550. Maybe I’m wrong, but seems high to me.

EDIT: Actually the Prospector is $579.

Although I really like the H7, S-2 and the burlington Zephyr, and if I had some money and an unconcerning wife, I would purchase one of each....

Isn't it time for Lionel to get off the couch!  No vision line engines, cars, or features?! WHAT?!

No engines with smoke features?!

StationSound diners are gone...

A Texas special with 15" cars? ! really?

Also did somebody say Berkshire Blowout? Cause last years Berks everyone voted down... but you can still by one of these hephalumps in case you changed your mind!

and yes we are happy again to see the the once again but blah-ze scale conventional Mogules... I almost lost my lunch...

Well I love trains, and this will not inhibit me to buy more, I just wish Lionel would wake up and  get off of the couch!
