I’d love to see:
1. A Lionel Legacy N&W Class M specifically #382
2. A Lionel Legacy N&W Class A specifically #1218 (one that’s to scale)
3. A Lionel Legacy N&W Class Y6a specifically #2156
4. Lionel Southern 21in passenger cars
Surprise us.
The 1940's era A.A.R. double-door 50' boxcars with opening end doors for ramp loading still have not been produced in the 1950's and 1960's paint schemes of the GRAND TRUNK WESTERN.
GTW 591500 series in the 1950's scheme

GTW 591200 series in the 1960's scheme

Those would match the previously produced GTW diesel locomotives and freight cars.

The North American Car Company built a large number of Pressure-Differential covered hoppers.
There were two main versions.
The Pd-3000
The Pd-5000
They have not been produced in O scale/O gauge or S scale/S gauge.

I picked up a single 21" Amtrak dome car for a great price on the bay and was suitably impressed to want to see a set with baggage, coaches, diner, lounge, and sleepers in Phase III Amtrak. Would really like a dorm baggage, but even on a wish list we can't have it all. I'll hold out for a GGD SS Limited one to repaint.
I'd like:
The new Acela
another Vat car
a Fastrack turntable
and anything in Erie or NYO&W assuming they are done in the correct colors
and another stimulus check to pay for it!
A Fonda Johnstown & Gloversville (FJ&G) ALCO S2 #21. A new paint scheme for existing tooling. It is a great paint scheme.
I like NYO&W too.
And D&H steam like a 4-8-4, or 4-6-2 with smoke deflectors.
"a Fastrack turntable"
That would be cool
Do you need a manual FasTrak turntable or a Command Controlled, powered FasTrak turntable?
Andrew
The Pullman-Standard later PS-2 2-bay covered hoppers that are 2600 Cubic Foot Capacity that are much taller than the earlier version of the PS-2 2-bay covered hoppers that are 2006 Cu. Ft. still have to be made in O scale and S scale.

A command control turntable wound be nice, sort of like what Bachman has in HO.
Better couplers for the last run of O scale 89' flat cars with Auto Racks.
O scale plastic automobile 12-Pack priced at $36 for the Auto Racks on 89' flat cars.

O scale MONON 52' gondola
Standard O MONON 42' gondolas
MONON 40' trailer on MONON 52' flat car
MONON 52' flat car with bulkheads and side posts to hold containers

Considering that I'm sure Lionel has already long since worked out what they will put in their 2021 offerings, perhaps this thread would be better named "Lionel 2022 Catalog Wishlist"
Comparatively "easy" things to do that wouldn't likely require new tooling:
- Larger sizes of manual Fastrack switches (up to O-72). The command are fantastic but there are some spots on the layout I may not use so often where manual would be fine (and my wallet would be finer).
- ATSF bookend scheme GP30, SD40, and/or SD45
- B&O GP30 (hasn't been made since TMCC era)
- B&O F units in passenger colors (also haven't been made since TMCC)
"New" items that may require more work/tooling:
- New sound sets for the EMD diesels (this one-size-fits-all sound set is getting a bit old)
- F45/FP45: could be done in ATSF warbonnet, ATSF blue and yellow, ATSF bookend, Montana Rail Link, Milwaukee Road, Great Northern blue, Burlington Northern, and Wisconsin Central, as far as I can think. If modular tooling were used with a few tweaks especially to the front pilot, Amtrak SDP40F's could be made from the basic tooling too.)

Legacy 20th Century Limited J3a and matching 21' cars.
Last time Lionel cataloged a '38 20th Century Limited it was in 2002 and the matching passenger cars are the 16' shorties

I agree. They had a legacy one cataloged a number of years ago with matching 18" cars but it was never made.
Everyone already posted great suggestions....mine would be more Area 51 and Halloween themed items and a Road Runner train like the one they run in New Mexico.
How about a rechargeable battery powered locomotive?
Or plug n' play track with no need to add extra power feeds or wires under the track?
I'd also like to see more SCALE American Flyer engines with Legacy in S scale.

The NYS&W had a couple of F45's also.
Seems like most engines Lionel brings out tend be NYC, BO, or other east coast railroads. Maybe an RS3 GBW, but might not sell a lot. Even a Milw in a Dash 9 or a more modern engine.
Don't know if someone already mentioned it, but a LionChief Plus2 N&W J would be great.

Another great idea!
More Lionchief 2.0 Christmas color locomotives.
O scale and S scale two-bay, open-top hoppers built in the 1970's and 1980's for rocks or ballast that have the side discharge gates on the bays.
Walthers has made them in HO scale as the 41' ballast hopper.
i would get a train of 12 for The SOO LINE railroad.

Separate sale 40' trailers. I like these better on the Atlas 89' flats than the Atlas 45' trailers. They're lighter, have better detail and are more realistic for a Chessie-era pig train.

Budd RDC cars planned by KLINE but never made.....
More or less correct colors on finished product?
A few ideas I want to see from Lionel in the next catalog:
-Vision Line UP Big Blow 3rd Generation Gas Turbine (plus the original and Veranda Turbines)
-Fastrack Turntable w/ Command Control
-Intermodal Crane w/ Command Control and Sounds
-SD70ACe-T4 w/ Legacy
-Legacy ET44 GEVO
-Amtrak (and other liveries as well) Siemens Charger
-F45 and FP45
-GP60, GP60M, and GP60B
-SD7 and/or SD9
-Weaver Roadrailers
-Command Control Fastrack Uncoupling and Operating Tracks
-A new Operating Track Controller (OTC2 for LCS)
-ATSF Super Chief and/or El Capitan passenger trains
-New Legacy Crane/Boom Car sets
-Amtrak Superliners, Surfliner Cars, and California Cars, including Stationsounds cars
More warbonnet/blackbonnet freight.
Some New York & Atlantic freight and diesels.
My wallet says anything that doesn't interest me...
Well, 2021 will mark 10 years since the last time the H16-44s were cataloged. I have an LIRR one from the initial run in 2011 and it is one of my favorite locomotives in my collection. I personally would love to see an LIRR H16-44 in the Tichy scheme. It would match the new MTH LIRR RS-1 perfectly!
If the Bowser to Weaver to LionScale RoadRailers can be found and produced someday, what needs to be finally produced are the Canadian National versions.
