In response to a forum members e-mail about controlling his bascule bridge I looked into the instruction packet that came with my Lionel 213 bridge to see if the controller that came with the bridge would work for his bridge.

Inside the instruction plastic bag was instructions and a diagram showing how to connect some type of PCB and speaker to the bridge up/common/bridge down terminals. I bought this bridge from a forum member so maybe he put that sheet into the bag. It shows power connections with 1N4001 diodes between the connections for up/down.

I’d like to scan it a post the image but don’t know how to do that. I could e-mail it to someone if you think you can identify it.

Any ideas.

I suspect what WAYNEPA may be talking about was an add-on sound kit made to go with the modern version of the Bascule bridge years ago.  It may have also been compatible with the 213.  I'm forgetting who made it, maybe Ott Machine Services?

That's a handy post Susan provided though.  Good idea if a 213 PCB does break.

Yes, it was OTT Machine Services who made those sound units for the Bascule Bridges!  He actually went to a location where they still operated the “Real” ones and made a recording of it in operation!

I used to buy from him direct & sell them in my Train Store!!  His entire operation was in his basement!  He made up the Kits and had a crew of Neighbors come in and assemble them!  He made all kinds of “Sound Units” !! He gave it up “YEARS” ago to become a maintenance Supervisor at a local school!  I used to go over to his house to watch the entire operation!!  Years gone by!!!

O Well..... Fredstrains
