I have a question about GG1 repair. I have a postwar Lionel 2332 GG1 that I can not seem to get apart. There is a large screw on the top of the body that screws into a threaded boss that is riveted or peened onto a sheetmetal brace that is bolted to the e-unit. Sound familiar? Well the peened threaded boss that is the female piece, is loose and just spins around. I have removed the other trucks/wheels and no luck.

So do you guys have any tips on this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you have removed the other main truck and horn sqwauk box, maybe try and get a pair of needle nose pliers down inside the shell to hold that boss.  I can visualize the part you speak of.  Another option ( last resort) might be to center punch the mounting screw and drill it out.  You can still obtain those screws, so it is replaceable.  Once apart you can re-peen that boss so it will not spin.

What will keep the screw from spinning since you can not 'grab' it from the side because it is a recessed hole?  I used some 'gap' filling "ZAP" cyanacrylic glue sparingly to hold the screw to the body cavity during drilling. Afterwards, ladies 'finger nail polish remover 'unstuck' the screw w/o damaging the finish.    'The Old Man'
