Hello. Just received a Lionel 260 bumper. I placed it on my O27 track and it wouldn't light. It does, however, light when power is applied directly to the electrical contacts on the bottom of the unit. Will these bumpers work only on O track? Is there a way it can be easily modified to work on my O27 track?

Add a metal shim (aluminum foil should work) or jumper from bottom contact to the middle rail.
You may be able to bend the contract enough to touch the rails.
O rails are higher than 027 rails.
I found that some postwar Lionel 260 bumpers have a "V" shaped notch at the end of the cooper center rail contact. I had to solder a piece of bare, solid wire across the "V" to get them to work on one of my layouts.

CW and the others are absolutely correct, the V contact engineering was designed for O Gauge Track however as they point out there are a couple of alterations you can make to use them. They pointed out one, here is what I do, I grind the feet of the bumper down to a size where the contacts then meet the mid rail of the tracks, be careful when doing this not to go to far, you still need the screw to hold the bumper in place on the tracks.

This is probably too obvious, but make sure none of the "feet" on the bumper are sitting on a track tie. That could raise the center rail contact enough to prohibit contact with the rail.

Thanks for all of the responses. I used a little piece of aluminum foil folded up as suggested and...voila! It lit right up! Have a nice weekend.
