Lionel 3 Truck Shay - Motor gear not engaging with shaft gear

Hello Model Train Gurus, My 3 truck Shay seems to have an issue with the gear in the motor engaging with the gear that moves the shaft that drives the wheels (annotated picture attached). I have had the engine for a while and this just started happening. My assumption is something has loosened, but I’m not 100% sure what and I thought I would reach out for some experienced advice before I dive in and start taking things apart. The engine runs fine in forward and reverse. If I run the motor slowly and touch the shaft it engages the gear and drives the wheels. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You got 2 options.

Fix the one you have- using the suggestion of loctite 660 Covered in this previous topic https://ogrforum.com/...40#94347277663790540

Buy the replacement part from Lionel. You'd need the engine product number (example 6-XXXXX) to validate the correct style and part number- ouch $120

Loosen the 2 screws that hold the cylinder assembly to the engine, then pull it tight against the engine with your hand then tighten the screws. Nothing needs to be taken apart.
