Lionel 6-12080 switch help please

The non derail rails are somehow touching. May need to take the bottom cover off to find the problem. If the switch is new try returning to the place of purchase.

If the switch is chattering back and forth without the switch being on the layout, and if it is mounted to the layout and the insulator pins are in the right rails, ( The manual could be wrong for the location of the plastic pins, it happens) the switch is defective, return.

Turns out there was something shorting the non-derail rails. The passenger car I had parked in the siding that was sitting on the switch the whole time. I actually had to move it around just to see the insulator pin positions.

Duh.
