Lionel 6-28072 Drawbar Replacement

You can just shorten the one you have. I would start with the tender drawbar. Measure from the slot to the tender beam so the slot just clears. Remove the drawbar, cut it and overlap that amount and solder together. Best if you wire brush the blueing off. Just make your cut clear of the IR detector.

Thanks Pete. I might need to go that route, but I was hoping someone could provide me the info for the 2-8-8-2 drawbar or part number. I would like to keep the original drawbar intact, if possible.

You looking for the engine or tender drawbar? You can’t make the engine drawbar much shorter or it will hit the frame in the curves. Maybe a 1/4” at most. Tender can be about 3/8” shorter. Any more and the slot will be under the beam and make it difficult to couple up.
