My Santa Fe Diesel with two vertical can motors with flywheels, fan driven smoke and electronic reverse, product number 6-34521 that may have a wiring problem. When I power up the unit using alligator clip connected to the front truck roller and the ground clip to wheels the unit will not run, if I connect the alligator clip to the rear truck roller both motors run. On the track the engine seems to work normally lights, smoke and forward and reverse. My question is should the motors run when connecting the power only to the front truck? I can't find any information on Lionel's web site. I am not sure where the wire that is connected to the rollers on the front truck should go inside the engine.

The roller on the front truck and the rear truck should be connected together. So yes, it certainly should run if you connect either roller and any of the wheels to power.
I don't have continuity from front rollers to the rear rollers.

The internal wiring goes to both motors. The engine only requires one track pickup to be working.
I found the problem, there was a white connector in the front truck that was not connected. I pushed the connector back in and now I have continuity from the front and back sets of rollers and the engine still runs fine. Thanks for everyone's help.
Love the easy ones.
