Where are the screw that you can remove to separate the shell from the chassis. I found two at the back of the loco and one at the front but the chassis still won't budge.

Those are it. Don't forget the handrails at the pilot, but they wouldn't keep the body from coming off. Pull harder.
I had the same surprise working on the same style locomotive - it took an unreasonable amount of force to separate the first time.
I almost forgot about the smoke lifters. Carefully bent them away from the pilot and that should do the trick.
