I replaced the pawl wheel (622-49) because the teeth were all eaten up. Now the pawl wheel rotates and interacts with the cams. However, it seems that the bell only rings maybe 20% of the time that the striker is cocked and released. Anyone have any tips for servicing this bell ringing truck?

Consider yourself lucky. Most people find that bell annoying!

If it were my only engine, yes, I can imagine it would drive me nuts. But I acquired it because it is different and unique feature and I figure it would be great to have to do some switching with.
Maybe slightly bending the hammer arm towards the bell.

I have a 622, 6220, 8501 WM, and a 624, 623
I'm learning to appreciate the two without the bell
Agree with Chuck....SLIGHT bend should do it....
We are so spoiled. We take electronic bells for granted. Just press a button!
Here is a very clever and ingenious mechanical bell that Lionel's engineers created at the time before.
It's annoying but still amazing.
