More often than not when I submit an item number this is what I get -  "No Results".  Using Lionel's own product numbers why does the piece not show up?  Is this common for any of you?

Was looking for a set of Erie Alco's (6-11734) in this morning's For Sale Post to no avail.

Vernon,

He asked about Lionel Archives, not the OGR Forum.

Yes, that happens a lot for me.  I think the problem is that Lionel only creates one data set for a particular engine that might have been produced in multiple road names.  Therefore, it might be better to search for something like ALCo FA, or other engine designation, rather than a particular part number.  You might find the info you're looking for under a different road name.  E.g., when I put in ALCo FA, the Lionel search engine returned 56 products; unfortunately, none with that part number.

Sam,  You probably have already located the post... but, here is the search.
6-11734

If you do a search and do not get a result and then try a different field OR change the search... RELOAD the PAGE before trying the NEW search.

I then went to Lionel.com... and typed 6-11734 into search ...and,

Dennis,

You are correct about that last link.  However, in the Lionel search process, how did you make the connection between the set number (71-1734-250 or 6-11734) and the 3 individual SKUs for each piece of the A-B-A set?  Those 3 individual SKUs (with the parts diagrams) never appear in the set owner's info document.

Chuck,

I assume Lionel is keying off 71-1734-250 in their search engine.  However, 1-1734 does not generate any result... whereas, 6-11734 does.  I've built my fair share of databases and depending on the developer they can be of somewhat peculiar temper and disposition... belonging of course, to one's peculiar and individual character.  I mean, L(.)(.)K at me!

The search engine for Lionel parts is a little odd.  For instance, some partial part numbers work, others don't.  Also, parts listings frequently show the dashed part numbers, but the search doesn't recognize part numbers with dashes.  The old Lionel parts site searches worked much better.

If you want better searches, try using Google search to search a specific site.
