The Fastrack 6-12054 Operating track section will operate the car and the roadbed sides conveniently snap off... that said, I still could not fit the Fastrack operating section in to the base of the platform without modifying the platform base or the Fastrack.

You can shave down the Fastrack the extra 1/8 inch or so to make it fit, use Fastrack to O-guage transition pieces and run tinplate track through the platform and Fastrack the rest of the way around, remove the platform from the base and mount it on something else at the appropriate height, or purchase the MTH platform in which the Fastrack will fit.

I have not had issues with my Fastrack switches picking the slide shoes but any switch CAN pick slide shoes.  I've run on other layouts with Fastrack switches and did have issues. Seems to depend on the individual car and switches. I do not know if the switches that caused issues were older / newer, etc.

I agree with Andy, the FasTrack operating track doesn't fit into the gap for the platform. I removed the platform from the layout and pounded out the track holding area flat. Then I measured the FasTrack (with the sides removed) and re-hammered a 90 degree bend back in again by placing it on a 4 by 4 in the right spot. A little bit of grey touch-up paint to match the FasTrack roadbed and it didn't look too bad. I never liked those green bases. I have two dairy cars and my older pre-war one is much heavier. Like with any heavy car I put it more forward in line toward the engine and their shoes don't hit anything. I honestly didn't even think about it until I read this.
