Will a cab1 remote work with a cab1L base station.

No, CAB1 is 27 Mhz
Cab1 remote only works with either the original TMCC powermasters 6-24130 or the original TMCC Base6-12911
CAB-1L and Base-1L are 2.4 GHz (both are same color blue and remote has no pull out antenna) http://www.lionel.com/products...command-set-6-37147/
990 CAB2 and Legacy Base are 2.4 GHz
Base3 will be 2.4 GHz

Or the 6-12867 PowerMaster PM-1.
Thank you gentlemen. So right now I have some original power masters that I use with my Cab 1L through a power master bridge. If I had a cab1 remote I'd be able to talk directly to the power masters without the bridge? Or would I also need the Cab1 base.

Correct. The powermaster bridge receives the 455 KHz track signal from a tmcc or legacy base, and then retransmits on the old 27 MHz to an old school powermaster.
So yes, the design from day 1 was that CAB1 can directly control a TMCC powermaster. No base required. Many people I know use this to control a layout of conventional trains using the CAB1 remote control.
Thanks Vernon. I'm using them to control my postwar stuff and I turn them wide open to run TMCC.

You know you can get full TMCC voltage to the track by sliding the CMD/CONV switch to CMD, right?

I know but the PM's are under the table and not convenient to get too. By leaving the switch in conventional it's easier to just turn up the voltage. Also it's fail safe. My Post war engines can't fly off the table if I forget to throw the switch. Ask me how I know that lol.
