Recently received a used Cab Forward engine from Trainz and everything checked out okay. Yesterday I ran it on the layout for several complete loops of 200 feet each loop. The only thing needing attention was a worn out traction tire. On the cab forward the traction tire is located at the joining of several rods connecting the drivers plus other operating mechanisms. Not an easy job. Took it to a repair station and they first took a photo of the position of the positioning of all the wheels and driver rods to insure correct reassembly without mechanical interference. They then showed me each step as they took the side hardware off and installed a new traction tire. The process for them took less than 15 minutes and allowed me to do the job myself next time.
When I got the engine home and powered it up for the run everything was normal. Bell, horn, each coupler, PA announcements, engine steam idle, etc,. However, as the engine moved forward the "Chug" was absent. I ran it at several speeds and the Chug would sometimes come in for a few seconds and then disappear again. Moved engine to a test track in another building and the same results. The track, wheels, rollers all cleaned. The rollers are turning, the engine to tender IR tether is aligned, new batteries in remote, tried two different remotes and nothing seems to restore the Chug. Did a reprogramming to restore features using the Aux code of 74 for this engine.
It's behaving as there's a loose connection that could have occurred during all the handling of the engine and the removal of parts from the from piston ahead of the drive wheels. However; someone might have had this problem and found a fix. I'm stuck unless I take it to a repair station and have them test and find the fault with a loose connection or a board problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
