Technically, the answer is yes for both points - It mas made to match the 18107 ALCO PA-1's cataloged the previous year, and yes, the set became one of the most prized and expensive Lionel sets of the modern era, at least until the early 00's when other sets started to take that honor.

 

In fact, it was not all that long ago I purchased this 6 car set, which fittingly enough were released just before I was born in '93.

Those are the ones Thomas! Do you have the ABA and passenger cars?

I have all 6 cars, which make a truly beautiful set. I don't have the engines yet, though I have been contemplating some command-equipped D&RG engines to head the set instead, nice as the conventional PA-1's are.
