I remember when the 19122 - 19127 all dome set came out they were quite popular. 1992 I think?
Were there engines released at they same time to mate these to??
Would it have been the DRG PA1's?

That sounds correct but someone with better memory/information might weigh in here...
Although I'm older then you Sam I do remember it was the PA1's, I think.
Technically, the answer is yes for both points - It mas made to match the 18107 ALCO PA-1's cataloged the previous year, and yes, the set became one of the most prized and expensive Lionel sets of the modern era, at least until the early 00's when other sets started to take that honor.
In fact, it was not all that long ago I purchased this 6 car set, which fittingly enough were released just before I was born in '93.

I have all 6 cars, which make a truly beautiful set. I don't have the engines yet, though I have been contemplating some command-equipped D&RG engines to head the set instead, nice as the conventional PA-1's are.
I have both the engines and passenger cars. This is a beautiful set and it does have a dome on the Observation Car.
